Happy, Happy Birthday Sweet Husband
The little guy here is baby Bruce with big sister Kate. Today he is 58 years old. 41 of those birthdays we have celebrated together. Happy birthday you sweet husband, you!
From a smooth-faced boy to the aging man, I have seen every line form on his face and every grey hair appear. And my hope is that someday in the far off future I will look across the room and see the wrinkled wizened faced man with a head of fluffy white hair and say, “That’s my Big Dog!”
Tonight I’ll make him a lasagna dinner and lemon meringue pie.
And he’ll find a birthday card with this poem inside, written by somebody from Carlton Cards and it is as corny as it is true. Caring and love multiplied and returned and back again. I’m such a lucky girl.
When you reach for my hand
when we walk through the store
when you call me from work
when you open my door
when you get me a blanket
when you cover my feet
when you pick up to-go
when you put down the seat
when you watch a chick flick
when you share the remote
when you kiss me goodbye
when you leave a love note
when you clean up a mess
when you fix the PC
when you turn down the volume
when your team’s on TV
when you don’t get upset
when you patiently wait
when you’re ready on time
when you hate to be late
when you tell me I’m sexy
when you care how I feel
when you listen to me
when you just keep it real
when you open your heart
when you share something new
when you’re easy to love
when you’re just being you…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!
Could you call my husband and give him some pointers. Karen’s words resonates. Well now I’m jealous.

Hey Beth,
The poem is right off of his greeting card and is mostly spot-on but lemme get real :)…
Chick flicks? Not too much.
Share the remote? Maybe if he isn’t at home.
Fix the PC? Not in Big Dog’s wheel house. We have sons on call for that.
Turn down the volume? Probably not.
He puts up with me? So glad.
